So a few weeks ago I started having issues with the speedo. My bike rarely sees moisture, from washing or rain (Hey! don't judge)
I had not been on the bike for some time until Sunday and I had forgotten it did this.
Think of a digital number 8. The top right vertical bar and the center bar of the digits fade to light gray and sometimes disappear. Not only on the speed digits, but also in the time, mileage or temperature. Weird.
I don't think it's water inside. I don't think it's the Reg-Rec since the RPM gauge works flawlessly. The speedometer does not go blank. It's just those two bars. In ALL the numbers throughout the speedometer cluster.
I know Bic has had his replaced recently and I can probably do the same for around $300.
Any troubleshooting thoughts?

On my 2007 model the LCD panel connects to the speedo circuit board via two rows of pins into sockets. It could that the pin/socket connection is poor. You need to open up the speedo case though, which is easy enough. Otherwise it there could be some problem with the LCD itself or a component on the PCB - which you may be able to spot while you have the PCB out of the case. It's possible to test the whole thing whilst it's out of the case. Mine had some water damage to one of the power rails which stopped the LCD from working at all. I fixed it by soldering a jumper wire over the broken track.

Mate.
If you take the unit apart to explore/investigate the small connection pins then be careful - they are very small and tricky to put back together if you bend any out of line.
In my experience, (a frustrating one as you maybe know) one the unit starts playing up like that it's first worth drying out in a warm environment to see if it was a moisture issue but if problems continue then just replace it. Maybe try a second hand unit but I've had a few bad experiences with trying to do this so beware.
Good luck
